So, is Oceania Allura good? Yes, it is. Is it better than Oceania Vista? That’s a harder question to answer since both ships are very similar, but I’d still go with yes. Well, let’s take a look at what makes this ship a home run.

Oceania Allura is the second ship in the Allura Class, which began in 2023 with Oceania Vista. Both Allura and Vista introduce smart upgrades over the previous class of ships, last seen in 2012 with Oceania Riviera.

For example, Oceania Allura is larger than Oceania Riviera but carries 50 fewer guests, meaning more space to move around and a better crew-to-guest ratio. That makes your time onboard even quieter and more peaceful, perfect for those who want to relax and feel the waves as they travel from city to city.

Staterooms are another area where the new Allura-class ships are miles ahead of the competition… and their older siblings as well. Oceania Allura offers all-balcony cabins, meaning even the entry-level stateroom comes with a French balcony. That’s great news, especially when you consider that the entry-level cabin is 240 square feet - a huge advantage when many inside cabins on other ships are around 180 square feet these days.

Food is another big advantage of Oceania Allura and continues the tradition of “the finest cuisine at sea” that Oceania Cruises is known for. The ship features three of their most beloved restaurants - Red Ginger, Jacques, and Toscana - and adds Aquamar Kitchen and Ember to the mix. And let’s not forget: dining is included in your cruise fare, so all you need to do is make a reservation and enjoy any of these amazing specialty restaurants.

Some of the same issues seen on Oceania Vista continue on Oceania Allura, and honestly, they’re more like minor inconveniences than actual problems. The main one is that entertainment onboard is pretty limited.

Sure, you’ll find piano bars, art and cooking classes, and a few small live shows, but that’s about it. Nighttime entertainment is especially lacking. That’s pretty typical for luxury cruise lines, which focus more on cozy, elegant settings than big Broadway-style productions. Still, I’m holding out hope that one day a luxury cruise ship surprises us with a massive indoor theater and a full hour-long stage show.

This also isn’t a ship designed for families with kids. Most guests onboard are retirees in their 60s looking to relax with a glass of wine. There’s no Kids Club, and entertainment for younger passengers is pretty much nonexistent.
