Norwegian Bliss is very similar to Norwegian Joy. Both are part of the Breakaway Plus class and focus heavily on entertainment for families and kids. This ship features a go-kart racing track, laser tag, a waterpark, and plenty of waterslides, making it the true definition of a mega-resort at sea. Let’s check out what works and what could be improved onboard this 2018 vessel.

Let’s just say there’s a lot to do onboard Norwegian Bliss. You’ve got a go-kart track that’s wider than the one on Norwegian Joy, an outdoor recreation area called Horizon Park, a full-on waterpark, multiple waterslides (some of which take you off the side of the ship in transparent tubes), a Kids Club, a teen lounge, a mini golf course, and an arcade.
The go-kart track is definitely the most “wait, what?” thing onboard, and a big reason why this ship shows up in so many articles and marketing campaigns. Is it fun? Oh yeah, even if just for the bragging rights of saying you drove a car on top of a cruise ship. As far as mega-resorts at sea go, Norwegian Bliss gets Famvia’s official seal of approval.
Food is another highlight, staying true to the standard set by Norwegian Joy. Both the complimentary dining and specialty restaurants are impressive. The buffet offers a wide variety of choices, especially at breakfast and dinner, often outshining what you’ll find on many other cruise lines. Specialty dining is also top-tier, with standouts like Le Bistro, Los Lobos and Ocean Blue earning great reviews and definitely worth checking out. And if you're staying in one of The Haven Suites, you’ll have access to an exclusive restaurant with exceptional dishes and a more upscale experience.

There’s also the Jersey Boys musical, which is the main show onboard Norwegian Bliss. It’s a Broadway-level production that follows the story of Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons, and it gets pretty solid reviews. I believe this show was also available on Norwegian Encore in the past, but it’s now exclusive to Norwegian Bliss, making it even more special.
The observation lounge is also a highlight. Much like Norwegian Joy, you also find this beautiful spot on the Bliss, which has floor to ceiling glass walls and bard nearby to you can sit down and enjoy the view as the cruise sails places like the Caribbean or Alaska.

I’m not a fan of the pushy sales tactics and lotteries that pop up on the TV screens or before big shows. These are usually promotions encouraging passengers to pay for a chance to win thousands of dollars. Honestly, the level of pressure to join in feels a bit over the top, and I hope Norwegian tones it down in the future. There are also quite a few photographers trying to snap your picture as you board or leave the ship, which can get a little annoying after a while.
And it’s not like you aren’t already spending a lot onboard. Most of the big entertainment options - like the arcade and go-karts - come with an extra charge. Add in the cost of a drink package, Wi-Fi, and specialty restaurants, and it’s easy to rack up a pretty hefty bill.
Since this is a mega-resort at sea designed for families, and often comes with some pretty great prices, it does get crowded. Elevators can take a while, and the buffet line can get pretty long in the early morning. Still, I don’t think this ship feels quite as crowded as Norwegian Joy.
Norwegian Bliss is a fun ship, and an upgrade over Norwegian Joy. It has an amazing show in Jersey Boys, and the food is pretty solid for a mainstream cruise line. The Alaska itineraries are fantastic, and the Observation Lounge is a major plus. Would I like it if they toned down the lottery thing so it doesn’t feel like a YouTube ad every five minutes? Yeah, but you just can’t have it all.
